Christianity

Christianity is the world's biggest religion. It is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ who lived in the Holy Land approximately 2,000 years ago.

What do Christians believe?
Christians believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and that:

  • God sent his Son to earth to save man
  • Jesus gave his life on the Cross (At the Crucifixion)
  • Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his Crucifixion (the Resurrection)

Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah promised in the Old Testament. They also believe that there is only one God, but that this one God consists of 3 "persons"

    • God the Father
    • God the Son
    • The Holy Spirit

Christians believe that God made the world.

Who is the Founder?

The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ.

Why is Jesus Christ important to Christians?

Jesus is important to Christians because he was the son of God who came to earth to save humanity

Who is Jesus Christ?

Christians believe Jesus Christ is the son of God who lived approximately 2000 years ago.  He came to earth to teach about Gods love and of fellowship.

Symbols in Christianity

The main Christian symbol is the cross: it reminds Christians that Jesus dies on the cross to save us all.
The dove is a symbol of peace and the holy spirit.
The fish is a symbol that spells out ICTHUS – Greek for Son of God.  It was used as a way to identify other Christians through the Roman persecution.

Where do Christians worship?

Christians worship in a church.  They are often in the shape of a cross and the alter faces east, towards the rising sun. 

How do Christians worship?

A Christian service is led by a vicar.  Christians worship though hymns, prayers and sermons given by the vicars.

What is the sacred text (holy book) of Christians?

The Christian sacred text is the Bible.  It is made up of the Old and the New Testaments.  Each of these are separated into different books written by different individuals.

What are they central beliefs in Christianity?

There is one God.

What are the 10 Commandments?

Rules by which Christians live.

  • You shall have no other Gods but me.
  • You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it.
  • You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
  • You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.
  • Respect your father and mother.
  • You must not kill.
  • You must not commit adultery.
  • You must not steal.
  • You must not give false evidence against your neighbor.
  • You must not be envious of your neighbor’s goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.
